Welcome to the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine's Chapter of Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual People in Medicine (LGBPM).
The University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine is a community that strives to achieve the common goals of mutual respect, trust, and concern. Our community is founded on these principles, as well as the ideas of freedom of expression, and tolerance of differing opinions. As a result, medical students are encouraged to approach others with an open mind and participate in meaningful dialogue as an active voice and a willing listener. For gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and questioning students, this provides a space in which to nurture personal development, and to share that development with a tolerant and accepting community.
Medical school is a challenging time of exploration, introspection, and maturation as one prepares to enter into the medical profession. The University of Chicago emphasizes a safe, accepting environment for students of varying sexual orientations through our egalitarian philosophy. This web page serves as an introduction to the ways in which our community addresses issues of sexual orientation and sexuality.

Come join us for GayCo Comedy Night @ Second City. Tickets are only $5 and may be purchased at the door. We will also be heading to SPIN NightClub (3200 N. Halsted) afterwards (around 11:00 pm). Email us for more details.
Several groups other than LGBPM exist at the University of Chicago and are able to provide medical students with a recognized support network. Each group pursues different goals in an effort to raise awareness of gay and lesbian issues on campus, and in the world, and to provide a definitive gay space within the medical school community.

A University wide GLBT organization open to both graduate/professional students and undergraduates. Q&A fosters social, political, and educational activities, and advises students, staff, and faculty on GLBT issues. These two members of the faculty serve as the primary liasons between gay medical students and the medical school administration. The Lesbian and Gay Faculty and Staff Organization hosts an annual welcome and welcome back reception for GLBT students, faculty, and staff each fall quarter.Outlaw
Outlaw seeks to increase social acceptance of gay students at the University of Chicago Law School, to educate the University community on the legal status of gays and lesbians, and to provide a supportive atmosphere for gay and lesbian law students. Outlaw successfully negotiated for the inclusion of sexual orientation in the University's non-discrimination clause.Gays and Lesbians In Business
Gays and Lesbians in Business exists to provide a social and educational network for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transsexual and transgendered members of the Graduate School of Business.Chicago Resources:
A vibrant Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual community exists within the City of Chicago. Chicago offers a wealth of cultural, historic, educational, and entertainment opportunities specifically for gay, lesbian, and bisexual students. Chicago affords area gay, lesbian, and bisexual students an opporunitity to submerge themselves in a gay environment by partaking of any of countless cafes, restaurants, bookstores, bars, nightclubs, or neighborhoods.This a very small sampling of what Chicago provides:
- Chicago Queer Film Festival – an annual festival that inundates the city with independent gay and lesbian films from around the world. Several films are shown every day at different venues around the city, and are often followed by after-parties.
- Volunteerism – many medical students have volunteered to work with organizations serving the GLBT community within Chicago. These have included both medical facilities such as the Howard Brown Health Clinic and non-medical groups such as Horizons Community Service.
- Windy City Times – a weekly Chicagoland newspaper that can be found at many gay-friendly cafes and bookstores as well as at several locations campus including the Reynolds Club and Bookstore.
Each year, we join forces with GLMA (Gay
and Lesbian Medical Assocation ) and a number of other Chicago LGBPM
chapters to march in the Chicago Pride Parade.
